Your dream loaded Jazz Bass® control plate, complete with a set of ObsidianWire® Pro-Wired™ Electronics, and a high quality control plate and knobs.

    JAZZ BASS WIRING HARNESS

The Obsidian® for Jazz Bass wiring harness is a complete electronics upgrade for your Jazz bass with some Obsidian® mods for clarity at all volumes, and a smoother range of tone and volume control.

These are built to be a direct fit for genuine Fender Jazz Bass, and Squier Jazz Bass with some adjustments.

    CRYSTAL CLEAR TONE (Treble Bleed)

Retain clarity at lower volumes. To make your tone crystal clear at lower volumes we include an Obsidian® Custom spec treble bleed mod. This prevents tone 'muddiness' at low volumes by allowing high frequencies to pass along a separate path to your amp, rather than being stopped short by the increasing resistance at the volume control.

    SMOOTH CONTROL

Even tone and volume control all the way from zero to ten. Obsidian® tone and volume controls incorporate carefully selected and custom-built components, as well as our own clever mods to smooth out the taper of your tone and volume controls, so you get a more even roll off all the way from zero to 10.

    Robust and Killer Sound

I replaced an active preamp with passive switch on my favorite 5-string jazz and this thing sounds so good. More articulate and open sounding vs. how it sounded with the pre bypassed. My bass, a BassMods K534 is known in gospel and funk for a hi-fi jazz sound and super easy playability. However, I'm a rootsy reggae/jazz/soul player and wanted to capture the classic jazz tone for mostly finger styling playing with flatwounds - installing this pre-amp did it. This gives me a modern, super easy playing 5-string with a rich jazz bass tone with more clarity and range through the 2 volumes and single tone knob. I like modding basses but soldering is something I struggle with. I'm all thumbs when it comes to wiring but I was able to do it with some trial and error in under an hour. If my pickups had more identifiable wiring, it would've taken me alot less - not the fault of the harness. Those instructions were clear and the unit is super solid.

    Excellent

Worked well with new fender ultra noiseless pickups. Mounting plate fits Japanese fender jazz bass which was a nice surprise. Cable attachment is a lot more secure than my old harness. I like the Larger volume knobs.

Finally smart enough to stop soldering

After years of soldering everything myself and swearing at my eyes going bad, I put one of these harnesses in one of my Jazz basses. What a wonderful process and sound. The one in there had all scratchy pots and now it's perfect.

    Easy and Awesome!

This is a top quality product. I got the pre-wired harness mounted to a new control plate. Installation was easier than the removal of the factory plate and controls. The potentiometers make such a huge difference in volume and tone control. This has turned my good Jazz Bass into a fantastic Jazz Bass. If you're on the fence about this upgrade, go ahead and do it. The price is great and by doing it yourself, you're going to save money. And, be proud of tuning up your bass. Thank you, ObsidianWire!

    Works as advertised

I’m not handy with a soldering iron and this definitely made the process easier. I’m not an experienced tinkerer so I can’t say if it has a greater range of sounds, but it’s certainly not less!

    This Is my third one!

I have built three Jazz Bass variations over the last 12 years, my first one was a fretless, and it never really sounded right and the tone was off. I Finally got around to installing your Vintage JB controls and now it sounds great. I really love your product!! Keep up the great work!

Fender Jazz Bass Kit I assembled from factory Parts

I had previously used standard components on this jazz bass but had problems.(dead pickup) I thought that the harness (circuit Board solder less install) would be better. As well as sound better, It did!! Im Happy!
I did have some problems with the wire ends from the pickups, not wanting to stay connected but using a tweezer to hold the wire in place did the job!
Very well Made! My wife said so, She is a certified solder and assembly person with over 30 years experience!

Rewarding - Squier VM jazz bass.

I had a bit of a problem with short leads from the neck pup I had to work around.
It felt like I could use a third hand sometimes trying to get the wire in its proper place. But…..
It was well worth it. The improvement in tone is phenomenal. Precise and clear.
This Squier VM never sounded so good.
    Thanks.

    Sire Marcus Miller upgrade

Purchased a Jazz Bass wiring harness to upgrade / replace the pots in a Sire Marcus Miller v5 bass. Worked perfectly (had to splice some ground wire as the grounding terminal was on the jack-end of the harness and the ground-wires in the cavity were too short) but it greatly improved the tonal response and taper-curves of the bass. Do note however, that you will need to buy a new control plate (and knobs) as the harness is US CTS pot-shaft specific and the harness will not fit a non-Fender standard plate. Overall, great product and very happy with results.

    Cleanest Installation and Superior Quality

I mod basses and guitars as a serious hobby. I can solder, but i've grown to appreciate solderless connections since I am constantly swapping pickups.

Obsidian is the best i've used. Great assemblies and components.

With my new Squier Classic Vibe Precision, the Obsidian assembly and Fralin pickup made this the best sounding P bass i've ever owned.

    OBSIDIAN Wire product.

I purchased the Obsidain wire for my squire precision bass guitar and it sounds great, although I had replaced the stock pickups with a set of Fender custom shop 62" P-bass it sounds so good no buzz from the bass at all. its like im playing a true Fender vintage P-bass I gaved this product a five star, hell if I could I would give it a ten.

    Great upgrade

Simple to install, with some great instructions. Sound with the new pickups is also nicer compared to what I had previously (Rosewell pickups before). Only thing is the knobs I have don't fit. Not sure why as they're supposed to be 1/4" Fender. I assume that's my issue and not that of the ObsidianWire. Overall great product and highly recommended.
