    P BASS® WIRING HARNESS

The Obsidian® for Precision Bass wiring harness is a complete electronics upgrade for your P bass with some Obsidian® mods for clarity at all volumes, and a smoother range of tone and volume control.

These are built to be a direct fit for genuine Fender P Bass, and Squier P Bass with some adjustments.

    CRYSTAL CLEAR TONE (Treble Bleed)

Retain clarity at lower volumes. To make your tone crystal clear at lower volumes we include an Obsidian® Custom spec treble bleed mod. This prevents tone 'muddiness' at low volumes by allowing high frequencies to pass along a separate path to your amp, rather than being stopped short by the increasing resistance at the volume control.

    SMOOTH CONTROL

Even tone and volume control all the way from zero to ten. Obsidian® tone and volume controls incorporate carefully selected and custom-built components, as well as our own clever mods to smooth out the taper of your tone and volume controls, so you get a more even roll off all the way from zero to 10.

A worthwhile modification to any Precision Bass.

I finally found a Squier CV 60s P Bass worth modding, so this circuit was the starting point. Even with the stock pickup there are definite improvements (particularly with the tone control) so once that Fralin pickup arrives, It'll be all steam ahead. I found fitting the wires into the tiny cavities a little fiddly, but that's probably because of my failing 76 yo eyesight! A very worthwhile investment.

    Wonderful!

I got it for a G&L tribute bass. The holes were not designed for it. I just widened the holes and done. It feels and sound so much better than the stock electronics. Can’t wait to put a different pickup. It will be a breeze.

FITS MY MADE IN JAPAN BASS PERFECTLY!

I fitted the ObsidianWire Precision bass harness to my Fender made in Japan 2022 Precision bass. And fitted a set of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups, a Hipshot KickAss bridge, and a set of LaBella's.

The ObsidianWire harness fitted PERFECTLY through wholes in the Fender factory pickguard. No modifications required.

My bass looks, plays, feels, and sounds awesome. Highly recommend!

Obsidian Wire P-Bass harness fits my Fender Japan bass

I have a 2022, Fender, made in Japan Traditional 60s Precision bass. In my experience at least, I was pleased that the Obsidian Wire Precision bass harness fitted the pickguard holes perfectly, and the shafts of the harness aligned to each hole in the pickguard. I also added Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups and a Fender HiMass bridge. My bass plays and sounds awesome now. Definitely recommend Obsidian Wire...I purchased another two harnesses today for my other Fender Precision basses.

Perfect retrofit for my Squier Sonic P-Bass

All I needed to do was drill out the pick guard to 3/8" and they fit perfectly. The kit included enough extra nuts and washer to get the shafts the right height. The solderless connection system was intuitive, easy to use, and made very tight connections. I know how to solder, but this really saves time and eliminates the possibility of making costly errors. Would do do this again should I have to.

Perfect retrofit for my Squier Sonic P-Bass

As advertised, all I needed to do was drill out the holes in my pick guard. I used a 3/8th inch drill after placing tape over the holes to prevent tear-out. Viola! The posts fit perfectly. The extra nuts and washers were helpful and, yes, I needed the Knurled Knobs. I also replaced the OEM pickups with a Tonerider. Everything dropped into the body cavities after I convinced the wires to go where they needed to go. The wiring connector is brilliant: a perfect match for the OEM ground wires and whatever pickup you might use.

Straightforward install, easy wire connections, decent instructions, idiot-proof design, and fantastic tone with no buzz/hum. I paired this with a set of Fender Vintage ‘60 pickups for my ‘77 P Bass and couldn’t be more pleased. It fit like a glove and functions as smooth as silk.

So easy even I can do it.

J-bass drop in is a more complicated (more wires) but this p-bass drop-in is a piece of cake.

    Wow!

So easy to install! Can’t wait to buy the lollar pickups I want and not have to solder them on. I feel like the tones vary more now and you have much more to choose from. Only thing is the pots are a bit stiffer than the stock ones but that’s ok!

    Simple and effective

I had heard about Obsidianwire kits for a while before I fell out of love with guitar; coming back playing bass, I was curious if there were harnesses made for basses, and Obsidianwire delivered. I ended up modding out a Squier CV P Bass, and the electronics were the easiest bit, thanks to the help of Obsidianwire. Everything on the board is of incredible quality, the install took about 2 minutes (minus fitting it through a stock Squier pickguard), and if for some reason I ever wanted to throw the old Squier pickups back in, it would only take a few minutes. If you see yourself modding a cheaper bass, or constantly swap pickups to find the one(s) that suit you best, one of these Obsidianwire kits will be the most invaluable accessory you can buy. Highly reccomended!

A Very Forgiving Repair and Upgrade All in One

My '72 P-bass had gone silent, and in researching replacement electronics, I stumbled on Obsidian. After reading the reviews, I decided to give myself a break and not have to worry about soldering. Of course things rarely go as planned, and when I took a close look at the existing electronics, I noticed that I had two live leads coming from the pickups. I wasn't surprised as the bass had been modified by Alembic back in 1976, and at that time they replaced the original pickups with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. After a little pondering, I decided to strip and twist the two leads together to create a single live wire. My first attempt at installing the Obsidian unit resulted in silence. Then I realized I had flipped the unit upside down, and once I got things properly oriented and reconnected, I was rewarded by the best sound the instrument had put out in years. I guess the point is that the solderless connections are very forgiving and allow for a bit of trial and error without the hassle of soldering, unsoldering and resoldering. I found the resulting sound to be much cleaner, wider in frequency response and just plain better than the old pots and wiring. I highly recommend Obsidian for sound quality, ease of installation and flexibility during the installation process. Pros and novices alike will appreciate Obsidian's features.

    Exactly what we need

I honestly don't know what to say, except that these are great. I have Obsidian hardware in a P-bass and a Telecaster, and they are exactly what I needed. The feel of the pots, the solid hardware build, the installation experience... If they keep making cool stuff, I'll keep buying it.

Minor mod for a squier classic vibe p bass, No need to buy a new pickguard.

Installed a new Obsidian Wire PBass wiring system on my Squier classic vibe 70's p bass… The manufacturer said I would need a new pick guard… I have an RC car body reamer to make the holes bigger. The whole install for the new system took less then an hour… fits like a glove and sounds great over the stock squier pots!

    Great Product & Customer Service!

I have bought several ObsidianWire products (and accessories), over the years for my Precision and Jazz basses, and Strats and Les Paul. They have never let me down, and the customer support is excellent. Installing and swapping over pickups is quick, simple, and safe. I definitely will be buying more ObsidianWire products in the near future.

    Perfect wiring harness

Thanks to a career in avionics, I have no problem with soldering. Having said that, I have three P basses and and one J bass and they all have Obsidian Wire harnesses in them. Why? Because it is such an easy installation and the sound is perfect.
