Obdsidian wire and my stratocaster

Great product, my horrible job of copper shielding really hurt the installation. Do not shield your input cavity on any guitar. If your jock touches anything, no sound.

Great harness that allows me to change my pickups without soldering at all

I wanted to change my pickups without soldering and this harness lets me do that. The only problem with these harnesses is that they only fit perfectly for classic guitars, like Strats, Teles, and Les Pauls. But I like classic body shapes, so that's fine. For my Super Strats, I put EMGs. These are easier than those because all the pieces are close together and fit in your pickguard perfectly. I put Tonerider, Fender, Seymour Duncan, and DiMarzio pickups in different Strat guitars I have. The only thing you need to know is what wires are hot, ground, etc. on your pickups. Different companies, and here on this site, have pictures that show you what's what. I do wish the harness was labeled better, say "hot", or be color coded, but it just has numbers for each slot that takes in a wire (so you have to look at the instructions from OW). It's easy, it's like plugging speaker wires into a mini-stereo or something. I put these harnesses in mostly cheap Squires, but also put one in a MIM Fender. The harness will fit in a standard-size pickguard and that will fit on a Squier. You can drill larger holes (for the pots) in your old pickguard that came with an old Squier Bullet, but you don't have to. You can instead just get a standard-sized pickguard. That pickguard will fit rather roughly on an old Squier Bullet. But standard-size pickguards fit on the new Sonic serries of Squires, as good as they do on Fenders. Most Squires have HSH or HHH holes that you can fit your single coils and humbuckers in. I know, basic info, but less than 5 years ago, I didn't know about this great harness and almost missed out on customizing my guitars because I didn't want to solder. And I hesitated buying this when I first discovered this great product. So I hope this helps. A good tip, though, if you put coper foil tape in your guitar, make sure it doesn't touch important metal pieces of this harness or it will short out (I mean, it won't break it, but it would be messed up until you fix it). Have to say that OW is better than its competitors for HSS guitars because it could do 500 pots for humbuckers and 250 pots for single coils.

I finally like my strat!

I just couldn’t get along with the single coils in my MIM strat so was looking for a HH loaded pick guard to drop in. Obsidian Wire had a good balance of price and features. I chose the Alnico 2 classic set. Easy to install, just needed to clean up the corners of the body cavity with a dremel. Neck sounds fat but still articulate and balanced between high and low strings. I would like a bit more mids in the bridge pickup but rolling the tone down does help. I find I just play 95% on the neck now because it is so good.
Pickups handle gain really well. Enjoy playing this guitar so much more now.

Finally smart enough to stop soldering

After years of soldering everything myself and swearing at my eyes going bad, I put one of these harnesses in one of my Jazz basses. What a wonderful process and sound. The one in there had all scratchy pots and now it's perfect.

Easy peazy

I’m not a fan of soldering but I do love to swap pickups so this was a no brainer. Pots and wiring is top notch. Well built and I’ve bought three of these for all my Telecasters.

Fantastic customer service and wonderful products

Tried to order the Gilmour loaded pickguard, but it wouldn't ship to Sweden. Pointed this out and the owner opened up this possibility to me and a week later I got the pickguard. As with all ObsidianWire products (bought three before this one), it fitted well and was very easy to install. However, I wasn't prepared for the wonderful tones I got out of my CV Stratocaster. It is now my goto guitar and I have lots of fun with it!

Solid replacement knobs

Sturdy and stay in place. Worth mentioning that all knobs (according to Obsidian) are designed to sit flush along the tops, rather than along the bottoms.

Excellent harness

Ordering was a breeze, shipping timely and I installed it easy…quality is great and sound choices are awesome…

Love it

Recently bought an Epi Les Paul Standard pro thats about 10 yrs old. It had scratchy worn pots and a goofy switch. Id used Obsidian before on a Tele build and was so impressed i decided to get one to fix this really nice epi. Super simple to install, works like a charm. Couldnt be happier with it.

Excellent with a few points for refinement.

Great product. Easy to install. The one issue I had, which I recommend Obsidian Wire to note (they may have and I missed it), is that the control plate is slightly too large on an American Professional II telecaster. Luckily, the old one was around and it took me a few minutes to swap components over.

An additional point is I just found the installation graphic instructions to be a little unclear in terms of orientation which resulted in me installing everything in the reverse order. Self-critiquing mistake. So it would be great if the instruction diagram were just a little clearer for us dummies.

Quality Electronic Upgrade

My first ObsidianWire install was in a Tele build. The Custom Universal turned a really good HH sounding guitar to a great one! I was so impressed, that I installed the Custom ‘7 Way’ in my Fender Player Strat, again turning a really good sounding guitar into a great sounding guitar. Easy, neat, solder less install. Love the versatility ObsidianWire adds to the guitars.

Amazing

I replaced by Strat’s SSS pickups with HSH. The obsidian buys built the whole thing, all I had to do was connect the input jack. The wiring is so neat and tidy! From the order online to playing with the new pickups was about a week or so. Amazing

Easy install. Great instructions, but it is really easy. Sounds great. Using this with Arcane ‘69 Experience pickups in my ‘81 3-bolt Strat. Will likely go with a tele wiring set soon when changing those pickups.

Happy with unit, but...

Love the fitment and sound. Great quality; easy to install....but...why do my standard Fender knobs not fit?? OW should include knobs that fit the pots, or use standard sized pot shafts. Now, I have to order knobs that fit!

Great product, but..

Well, I bought this wiring harness to put in an LP style guitar kit, but unfortunately it didn’t fit. The way they routed the guitar body was too shallow, etc. But I bought because I’d previously bought one for a Tele style project I did, and it came out great! It’s a very cool product, but it just didn’t work out this time for me.
