I have installed four to date, and just ordered another, with more to go. I like building guitars with Warmoth necks/bodies and Seymour Duncan pickups. But the soldering mess I would make was always the weak link. It worked, usually, but it was ugly and trouble prone. So I'm going back through and getting rid of the guts of previous builds and putting these in all of them. I can build a guitar that easily equals a Fender "custom shop" for a fraction of the cost. It was always kind of a pain before due to my poor soldering abilities. But now I'm basically snapping it all together. Plus, if I want to sell it, I can take a picture of the inside and it looks beautiful. No way I could have sold my uggo soldered jobs. When you pull these out of the box they ooze quality workmanship. I would love to see Fender Jazz and Gibson/Epiphone SG versions!
I was dreading upgrading my Telecaster pickups due to my poor soldering skills. Research turned up Obsidian. I couldn’t be happier with the results. The upgraded pots, dials and wire along with my Fender ‘64 pickups breathed new life into my guitar. The install was well documented and easy. Thanks Obsidian!
Easy to install, good customer service
Effortless (and solderless) install! And I also bought the left-handed version and I was very happy that they offered it in a lefty version. I plan on buying another one for my Strat. Now that there is Obsidian wire solderless harnesses, I feel comfortable about replacing my pickups which is something I've been wanting to do for years but never touched it because I've always destroyed pots with my poor soldering skills. Well now I don't have to worry about any of that thanks to ObsidianWire!
I now have Obsidian Wire Harnesses in three of my guitars. So glad I decided to give them a try. All three guitars now have very nice smooth taper on the volume and tone knobs and are absolutely silent. I'm normally not one for leaving reviews about guitar gear but my experience with these harnesses has been excellent.
I've installed the Strat Custom Blender four times now. I prefer the tonal control given by a master tone control together with the blending of the neck and bridge pickups over the standard Fender 2-tone knobs configuration. There is also a unique, consistent "clarity" of tone the these devices provide that I really appreciate. The solderless connector is an easy, cleaner install for those of us with big hands and bargain store soldering pencils. But, follow the instructions and trim your wires very well, or the connector will not securely grab them. Finally, ObsidianWire technical support has been great.
Vintage '3-Way' for Tele® Loaded Control Plate CHROME
While the 4-way Tele switch isn't a new concept, Obsidian Wire made it amazingly simple for me to add the 'humbucker mode' (both pickups in series) without needing to solder anything. Humbucker mode is punchier in the low midrange, which is great for me as a solo guitar performer, as I don't lose the richness as I do with the traditional parallel setting. Plus, the treble bleed gives me a solid tone regardless of the volume knob position. Now I want to install this in every ASAT and T-style guitar I own. I couldn't be happier!
I use the Obsidian prewired electronics for my new builds as opposed to replacement wiring. It looks clean and professional, and they use all top quality components. It has been a little tricky installing into the LP since the circuit board is flat and the body top is arched, but it is not too hard to get it set by adding set nuts underneath and removing a bit of wood.
Options for 250k OHM pots would be nice. I use Lace Alumitones that are humbuckers, but prefer 250k Ohm pots. This becomes even more apparent when switching to single coil mode. I have had to add 470k resistors in parallel to try to compensate. Other than that - I love this setup!
Probably the best wiring harness available today. Gilmore mod is excellent. Quality components.
