Vintage 50s & 60s Plus Wiring

Our Vintage MKII for Les Paul gives you both classic and modern wiring characteristics in one harness.

Switch between Vintage 50s and ObsidianWire 60s Plus wiring independently for each pickup. Vintage 50s mode provides the familiar volume-control response associated with traditional Les Paul wiring, while 60s Plus is designed to retain treble as you roll back the volume for greater clarity and cut.

That means you don't necessarily have to choose between the two. You can even run 50s wiring on one pickup and 60s Plus on the other.

Advanced Les Paul Wiring

For players wanting considerably more tonal flexibility, The Ultimate Wiring for Les Paul // JP Mod combines selectable 50s / 60s Plus wiring with additional switching options.

Depending on the pickup configuration, it can provide:

  • Dual coil splitting
  • Series/parallel switching
  • Phase switching
  • Selectable 50s / 60s Plus wiring
  • Smooth volume and tone control
  • Solderless installation

The additional switching is built into the existing control layout, so no extra body modifications are required. Four-conductor pickups are required for the coil-splitting functionality.

Professionally Built Electronics

ObsidianWire Pro-Wired™ electronics are built in-house using custom-specified components and are assembled by trained builders.

The Vintage MKII for Les Paul uses:

  • Custom ObsidianWire CTS® 500K potentiometers
  • 0.022 µF polyester film capacitors
  • ObsidianWire Pro-Wired toggle switch
  • Switchcraft® or Pure Tone® output jack

The result is a complete pre-wired control system rather than a collection of individual components that you have to wire together yourself.

Solderless Pickup Changes

One of the biggest advantages of the ObsidianWire system is what happens after the initial installation.

Our Plug, Play & Enjoy™ connectors allow compatible pickups to be changed without repeatedly soldering inside the guitar. That makes the system particularly useful for players who like experimenting with different humbuckers or P90s, as well as guitar technicians and builders who regularly work on instruments.

The system works with humbuckers and P90s using either modern or vintage-style braided wiring, with the appropriate connection method.

Built for Gibson & Epiphone Les Pauls

The Vintage MKII is designed to fit genuine Gibson Les Pauls and most Epiphone Les Pauls, subject to the specified mounting-hole and knob requirements.

For the standard configuration, check that your guitar has:

  • 3/8" / 9.52 mm control mounting holes
  • Minimum 32 mm cavity depth
  • Long-shaft potentiometer clearance
  • US-spec 24-spline knobs

Epiphone guitars may require wider control holes and replacement US-spec knobs. Always check the ObsidianWire Les Paul layout guide before ordering.

Our standard MKII is designed for two-pickup Les Paul configurations and does not fit left-handed or three-pickup Les Paul models.
