No cussing the soldering iron, no wondering if it’s all going to hold together after you install into the guitar and so many options! Got it in (5) builds and it won’t be the last!
This is such a quick and easy way to upgrade the wiring in your Les Paul, in my case it was an Epiphone Modern LP. I did have to enlarge the hole a bit so the Obsidianwire kit would fit, but you should expect since Epiphone uses the smaller metric size pots. I used this kit because I was installing Seymour Duncan Limited 59 PAF humbuckers and didn't want to go through the hassle of getting new pots, caps etc and then having to solder everything together. The only soldering I had to do was un-soldering the ground wire for the bridge from the OEM pot. I didn't have to solder anything installing the 2-wire humbuckers. I also love the ability of choosing between 50's and 60's wiring style. After playing the switches in different position I settled on 50's for my neck pickup and 60's bridge.
Unfortunately, really this is not a review. It’s a review mainly on the delivery. It came according to them the email two days before they said it was gonna come I’m home because I’m going through chemo. I did not get a picture of the delivery. I found out that they said it was delivered an hour two hours afterwards no picture look out there and I was no package
I tried turning my sss strat into an hss with my homemade harness. I used all the best parts and reputable advice. I tried many variations of caps, resistors etc but I couldn't eliminate frequency stacking. I finally gave up and bought this Obsidian harness. It is literally like a new guitar now. It sounds absolutely beautiful with Fralin pickups.
I know how to solder but since I’m mostly a bass player I didn’t want to stick myself into something that I’m not an expert on, hence why I chose you guys. I was blown away with the product. Never expected to like a telecaster, but wow. Paired with Seymour Duncan middle pickup it works like a charm. The one thing I would say is that the plate didn’t fit my current pick guard but there’s nothing that can’t be easily modified. So I got that done asap. Thanks
Very easy to install & high fidelity sound
I used this for my first ever guitar build. Easy to install, and the build quality looks and feels premium. I don't know how much heavy lifting it's doing on the sound, but the guitar sounds fantastic so we'll give it credit there too. The only thing that was slightly less than perfect was that I had to enlarge the cavity a smidge for it to fit. But even that was only a 20 minute job with just sandpaper.
Just like every other Obsidian product I've purchased, it works exactly as described. Now they just need to come up with a solution for the skinny wires on a four conductor humbucker. Maybe some sort of pigtail adapter, since skinny wires are harder to work with vs vintage style.
Worked perfectly! I love the added option for a more open, powerful combined pickup sound. Installation was quick and easy.
I’ve used Obsidian wiring harnesses multiple times, and they’re absolutely worth it. They save time, eliminate headaches, and deliver consistent, high-quality results. While I sometimes enjoy soldering for the experience, most of the time I just want a fast, reliable upgrade, and this nails it.
I did need to convert my neck pickup to a 3-wire setup, but it was surprisingly simple even as a first-timer. Just keep that in mind—either use a 3-wire pickup or be prepared for a little light cutting and soldering.
Vintage '3-Way' for Tele®
I have installed 4 of these Obsidian harnesses now for several different types of guitars. I'm fine at soldering and sometimes I really enjoy that, but I also really enjoy getting one of these in the mail and doing a pickup swap in minutes. The pots feel and sound great, the switch is consistent and has a solid click to it. The instructions are easy to follow. There's lots of configuration options if you decide to change your mind later. I always find these well worth it and this model was no exception.
I bought the Gen2 5-way switch HSS kit for two reasons. First to revive the playtime on a guitar that I hadn't touched in years and two, to add an HSS config which was something that I wanted to do for a while.
The install truly was straightforward between the instructions and picture/video reference material online. The instrument now sounds so amazing in the bridge with the full-sized Pearly Gates that I installed...I finally have a bridge position which works for my taste in music.
The experience with the kit was awesome and I will absolutely purchase another one in the future. My only gripe (which is why I didn't give five stars) was the output jack. I find it unnecessarily challenging to remove the guitar cable after it's been plugged in. I'm sure other customers love it (as seen in the reviews), but for me it's just a bit of a nuisance to the point where I will reinstall the OEM one from Fender at some point. Other than that, I could not be happier with the kit from ObsidianWire...you have earned a customer for life. Thanks!
Custom Universal for Tele®
Have obsidian wire in 3 telecasters and one jazz bass. Units are flawless and superior to anything else out there.
Excellent product, easy install, very clean wiring.
Most importantly, tone is amazing - loving it
Everything was perfect, the quality, shipping, installation…to resume in one word: PERFECT
This made adding missing pickup combinations to my Hotshot (Nashville) Telecaster pretty straight forward. Now I have the pickup combinations I wanted, without all the solder. I may add the 7-way to my Strat next!
Love it, great mod for my strat, it has made pickup wiring and switching so simple. Great quality,, clean and clear.
It was perfect and easy. The main mistake I made was to buy a custom vintage setup for my HS tele. I unbraided the GND Humbucker wire to connect it into the slot.
This output jack arrived ready to be added to my guitar. The connection is tight and secure; an improvement over the standard single connection I had. This upgrade was worth it.
I build various electric guitars and the harness makes it easy foe setting the electronics and pickups.
Just perfect, easy to install and works well.
I finally found a Squier CV 60s P Bass worth modding, so this circuit was the starting point. Even with the stock pickup there are definite improvements (particularly with the tone control) so once that Fralin pickup arrives, It'll be all steam ahead. I found fitting the wires into the tiny cavities a little fiddly, but that's probably because of my failing 76 yo eyesight! A very worthwhile investment.
I wanted to upgrade the electronics on a budget entry-level guitar, and this seems to be a great option if you're inexperienced with these kinds of upgrades. I also added a white pickguard that's better than the original one. Installation is easy, and their website has information on potential issues that helped me identify a change in the wire colors on my Toneryder pickups. The 7 ways switch -upgrade option is a significant improvement over the initial. The shipping was fast, with good order tracking, and the packaging was perfect.
Sounds great, love the tapping and the 50s/60s switches. Very happy. For Epiphone, I did have to ream the through holes for the pots, but easy to do with right tool.
